Lynne Franks
by Radiyah Shakur
Lynne Franks dropped out of school at sixteen,
became a journalist for the UK’s first weekly young
woman’s magazine Petticoat at age eighteen,
and at age twenty-one decided to start her own public relations firm, Lynne
Franks PR. The business, which began from Frank’s kitchen table, gained
world-wide recognition by advising and guiding multi-national corporations,
brands and non-profits.
In 1992, after twenty-years of public relations and
a desire to branch out in other directions, Lynne Franks
left her agency to become an international spokesperson
and teacher on the ever changing world of business,
and to promote a better relationship between industry
and society. Lynne is responsible for creating the
UK event, What Women Want, to draw attention to the
changing positions of women in society. In 1994, she
chaired the UK’s first women’s radio station,
and presented her own radio show, Frankly Speaking.
In 1995 she attended the UN Women’s Conference
in Beijing.
Lynne is currently a columnist in the financial pages
of the Sunday London Express. She has written four
books, and has created SEED (Sustainable Enterprise
and Economic Dynamics), which is a provider of women's
learning programmes on economic empowerment, sustainable
business practices and community leadership. She is
also the founder of Globalfusion, a communications
consultancy specializing in sustainable business.
Lynne Franks, who remains dedicated to contemporary
issues affecting women, has two daughters and lives
between New York, California and London.
